This week, our anthology story was "Fishing Bears".
So my wonderful first graders learned all about bears.
Here are some of the fun things we did:
Our KWL Charts Our Paper Bears and Caves
After we read "Going on a Bear Hunt",
the kids had to make a story map, retelling the story.
Here was our fluency poem for the week:
Today all the kids brought their own teddy bears for a fun day.
First we did teddy bear math.
Then we sorted our bears by sizeand by color.
At the end of the day we had a teddy bear picnic.
The kids and their bears nibbled on honey (honeycomb cereal), fish (goldfish), and animals (animal cookies). Oh yes... how can I forget the Pringles that one of my students insisted on bringing.

I remember this from student teaching, so fun! We did gummy bear graphing, "We're Going on a Bear Hunt", "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and a bear tree map :)
If you are not a Dr. Jean fan, I HIGHLY suggest visiting her website! She does a version of "The Cool Bear Hunt," that my kinders LOVE! Once you become a Dr. Jean fan, well let's just say after attending a 2 day conference with 650+ kinder teachers YOU are hooked! Check out her CD with loads of conceptual songs! SOOOOOO fun! I could go on and on!
Love,
Mrs. Kindergarten
